Requesting books

During the construction work in Cudahy Library requests may take up to 48 hours to process, and not all materials will be retrievable due to phased construction which may make some areas inaccessible. Due to the constraints of the construction schedule, requested items will be processed in the order received, and items cannot be requested for immediate pickup. If materials are unlikely to be available within 48 hours we will notify you quickly so that you can order through Interlibrary Loan, if desired.

Books from any Loyola campus or the Library Storage Facility can be pulled from the shelf and held for pick-up at any circulation desk. Search for the item in the library catalog, and click "Get It" below the book’s record. If you are not logged into your Library Account, you must first sign in using your Loyola username and password. Click "Loyola Copy", and select the circulation desk where you would like to pick up the book to complete the request.

Books should be available within 2 business days and will be held for 10 days. Patrons may request up to 10 books per day and will be notified by email when books are ready. (Please allow extra time for delivery to or from the Health Sciences campus.)

If an item is checked out or unavailable you may Request a Recall, using the instructions above. When the item is returned or becomes available, it will be held for you at your preferred library location.

Materials may be recalled only after they have been charged to a patron for two weeks. When an item has been recalled the patron is notified of the new due date by email. The patron who placed the recall will be notified by email when the item has been returned.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service which obtains materials that are not otherwise available in the University Libraries. To submit an ILL request, use ILLiad, or see Interlibrary Loan for more information.

Missing Books

If the item says that it is available, but it is not on the shelf, please submit a request using the Get It button after searching in the library catalog. A thorough search will be made and the item will be held for you if it is found. (You will be notified whether or not the search is successful.)

In Process & On Order

Patrons may submit an In Process or On Order Request for items currently in processing or on order. The items will be held for you after they are received and processed, and you will be notified by email.

  • In Process: These items have been received by the libraries, but are awaiting processing. The materials will be available within 7 days at Cudahy; 1-2 additional days for other locations.
  • On Order: These items have been ordered by the library but not yet received. It may take 4-8 weeks before these materials are received, depending on their availability.
