Spring Semester 2022 Library Service Modifications

Loyola University Chicago Libraries’ priority is to serve our students, faculty, and staff needs while protecting the health and safety of the community. Library locations have reopened, and our pre-pandemic services have resumed with necessary health and safety modifications. Please note that there are additional service modifications due to Loyola beginning the spring 2022 semester in a reduced in-person format. Hours for all library locations  

All library locations will operate on shorter hours during J-Term. From January 18 - 31, 2022, operating hours will be the following: 

  • IC: Sunday, 10AM – 12 AM; Monday-Thursday, 7AM – 12AM; Friday, 7AM – 9PM; Saturday, 8AM – 9PM. 

  • Cudahy: Sunday, 10AM – 12AM; Monday-Thursday, 7:30AM – 12AM; Friday, 7:30AM – 9PM; Saturday, 10AM – 6PM. 

  • Lewis: Monday-Friday, 7:30AM – 5PM. 

Connections Café is closed until further notice

Archives by Appointment Only  

Archival research continues to be by appointment only for the spring. Requests for appointments:   


Requirements for Using Library Spaces  

Please wear a mask at all times while in the library. Food is not permitted, but drinks are permitted in covered containers. Please wear headphones when using the sound on a computer or mobile device.   

Alumni, Friends of the Libraries, Reciprocal Borrowers, and Community Guests  

Beginning on January 18, 2022, we are limiting Library building access to current Loyola students, faculty, and staff; alumni; and Friends of the Library members. Please note that alumni and Friends must show proof of vaccination and a valid, government-issued photo ID. Alumni and Friends should additionally bring an Alumni Card or a Friends of the Libraries Card, as applicable.   

Entry hours for Alumni and Friends of the Libraries: 

  • IC and Cudahy: Daily 8AM-midnight, or until buildings close. 

  • Lewis: Monday-Friday, 8AM – 5PM.

Interlibrary Loan 

Interlibrary loan (borrowing books from other libraries) is available to all faculty, staff, and students. Please see this page to access Interlibrary Loan services and get more information.  

Book Delivery for Students Enrolled Exclusively in Online Courses  

We have restored home delivery of library books for students who are enrolled exclusively in online classes. Please see this page for complete information on this program.  

HathiTrust Digital Library  

Emergency Temporary Access Service has ended, but books in the public domain will remain available. Please see this page to learn more about HathiTrust.  

Returning Books Shipped Directly from the Libraries  

If you received books from the Libraries shipped directly via Amazon, please deposit them in any Lakeshore Campus Book Drop with a note including the phrase “Ship-Direct Return” and your UVID/email address. You are not expected to return materials until you are able to do so on campus. If your situation dictates that you must return materials via a carrier service (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.), please email for more information.
