Services for Students

The University Libraries offer a wide array of resources and services for research and learning.

Borrowing

The Circulation Desk is the central service point for the library. All materials, including books, audiovisual materials, course reserves, and Intercampus or Interlibrary Loan requests can be checked-out from this location.

There is no limit on the number of items that can be checked out at any time. Materials from the general collection of the University Libraries circulate as follows:

Status Loan Period
Undergraduate 28 days
Graduate 3 months

See Borrowing for information on renewals, recalls, fines, and more.

Interlibrary Loan

If the item you need is not available through the University Libraries, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL is a fast, free service which obtains materials for study and research, such as books, theses, and periodical articles that are not otherwise available. To submit an ILL request, use ILLiad.

Research Assistance

Librarians are available to assist with research any time the libraries are open. For immediate assistance, Ask a Librarian, or use one of our helpful Research Guides to find the most useful resources for your research topic. You can also request an appointment with a subject specialist for individualized assistance with identifying and locating resources. In addition, the libraries offer regular Classes & Workshops to sharpen your research skills.

Technology

All University Libraries provide computer labs, wireless access, printing, and digital media services. See Computers & Technology for more information.

Course Reserves

Course Reserves are materials set aside by your instructor for use by your class. These can include books, excerpts from books, journal articles, films, videos, or audio recordings. Use the Course Reserves Search to find materials for your class, or see Course Reserves for more information.

Undergraduate Research Paper Award

The Loyola University Libraries Research Paper Award seeks to recognize and reward outstanding research conducted by undergraduate students. Any undergraduate in any discipline is invited to apply for the award, which will be judged by a cross-disciplinary panel of librarians and faculty.
