How long will it take for my thesis to be bound?
Personal copies are sent to a commercial binder. The process takes two to five weeks. When bound, copies are placed at the Cudahy Library circulation desk on the Lake Shore Campus for pick up. Please specify if you would like them sent to another Loyola campus for pick up.
What if a mistake is made during binding?
A thesis or dissertation with an unacceptable error will be resent for binding, free of charge. Rebinding a dissertation entails sending it through the process again; there will be a 3 to 5 weeks delay and the copy will be trimmed so that it may be rebound.
Can I ship my thesis to the bindery to be bound?
Yes. Please fill out and submit this form and mail your copies to:
Cudahy Library Bindery
Loyola University Chicago
1032 W. Sheridan Rd.
Chicago, IL 60660
Please include your contact information so we can contact you with any questions.
Can the bindery ship me my bound copies?
The Bindery does not ship to patrons. We only ship through Loyola’s intercampus mail. You may pick up your bound copies at one of Loyola libraries circulation desks, or have them sent through intercampus mail to a Loyola University department. If you do not live in the area, you may mail copies to us to be bound, and have a friend or professor pick them up and mail them to you. The reason for our policy is that many copies have been lost in the mail in the past.
Thesis on Demand at http://www.thesisondemand.com/ will bind materials for private persons and mail them back. It is owned and operated by The HF Group which is our commercial binder.
What is a velobind?
It is a soft-cover binding similar to what you might get at a copy shop. It can be used on any dissertation, thesis, or manuscript an inch or less thick. Holes are punched on one side of the pages, and the pages are sandwiched between two covers. Both covers can be an opaque plastic sheet of various colors, or the top sheet can be a clear plastic cover. Pegs are passed through the holes into a strip on the bottom, and a heat process is used to melt the ends of the pegs to the strip, thus binding the item.
Who can use this service?
Any Loyola faculty, staff, or students wishing to have a thesis, report, or manuscript bound in a soft-cover style. The item must be an inch or less thick.
Where do I go for this service?
Bring your copies to the Bindery Office, Cudahy Library Room 020, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.
How much does it cost?
The price is $2.00 per copy. Payment is due before copies are bound. We accept cash or checks written out to Loyola University Chicago. We do not have any change.
How long will it take?
Plan for it to take one or two days to get your copies bound, although it often takes much less time.
What other information should I know?
Please be sure to bring all the copies of your theses/dissertations that you want bound. We do not make copies.
It is your responsibility to check that your copies are in the correct order and photocopied correctly.
This is an extra service provided for Loyola students. Please keep in mind that the Bindery staff has many other duties to perform and meetings to attend, therefore the staff may sometimes be out of the office. It is best to phone beforehand to be sure someone is available.
If no one is available in the bindery, you may drop off your copies at Cudahy Library's circulation desk. Please remember to leave a note with your daytime phone number so the Bindery staff can contact you easily.
We only send items through intercampus mail.
