What is RefWorks?
Refworks is a citation management software program, paid for by the Loyola University Libraries. RefWorks collects stores and organizes citations from books, articles, web sites and other sources. It automatically converts citations into properly formatted bibliographies. A multitude of citation styles are offered including MLA, APA and Chicago Style. Citations can be exported automatically from many Loyola databases.
In addition, you can search Pegasus, Loyola's online catalog from within Refworks. Refworks also converts citations from other bibliographic management systems such as Endnote and Reference Manager. All Loyola undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff may set up their own personal accounts. RefWorks is especially convenient, as all of the information is stored online, which allows users to access the information from any computer hooked up to the internet.
RefWorks also offers users the ability to set up multiple accounts. This can be used to share citations for group or research projects, creating reading lists for classes, or collaborations.
How do I use RefWorks?
The library has created a number of handouts to assist in the use of RefWorks, in addition to the tutorials and other information provided by RefWorks (available by logging in to RefWorks and clicking on the ‘Help’ button located on the top left-hand toolbar).
What happens to my account when I leave Loyola?
Users may either set up an individual account with RefWorks, or they can export the entire database in a format that is compatible with other bibliographic software (ex: Endnote, Reference Manager, ProCite, etc.).
