The University Libraries system comprises three libraries (two in Chicago and one in Rome, Italy), the Information Commons,
a library storage facility, and two archives. The Libraries hold over 1.1 million volumes and 25,000 print and
online journal subscriptions, and provide online access to a rich array of electronic resources. Both the Law
Library on the Water Tower Campus and the Health Sciences Library in Maywood coordinate closely with the
University Libraries. (See University Libraries mission statement)

The Loyola University Chicago Archives is charged with the responsibility of appraising, collecting,
organizing, describing, preserving, and making available for research and reference use those official
University records and those ancillary records of the University community of sufficient historical, legal,
fiscal, and/or administrative value to warrant permanent preservation.
The Women and Leadership Archives (WLA) collects, preserves, organizes, describes, and makes available
materials of enduring value that advance original research on women, their roles and contributions to
society, with particular emphasis on women as leaders. Collected are the records and papers of women's
organizations and women who have been leaders in the areas of civic, educational, religious, and business
life, primarily in Chicago and the Midwest
The Rome Center Library collection provides materials for undergraduates researching and writing term
papers in the selected subject areas taught in Rome. To enrich the faculty and student experience in
Europe, materials also include current Italian fiction in translation, works about cultural events in
Italy, as well as travel guides and maps. Additional general interest works such as American newspapers
and popular magazines help keep the Rome Center community abreast of events back home. Faculty and graduate
students who are planning to go to Rome should discuss their library needs for both teaching and research
in advance with Yolande Wersching, (312) 915-6623, Head of Lewis Library,
so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
The Health Sciences Library serves faculty, students, and staff of Loyola's medical, graduate, and
nursing schools as well as hospital and clinical personnel. The Loyola University Health Sciences Library
works closely with other Loyola University libraries to collect and maintain an extensive collection of
materials in the health sciences and related disciplines.
The Law Library supports the curriculum of the Law School and the research needs of its students and
faculty. The collection includes legal reference materials, current and historical Illinois legal
materials, Illinois legislative history, federal materials, an extensive health law collection, and
selected United States government publications.
The Library Storage Facility is a limited access storage and retrieval facility designed to provide
protection of print research materials while maintaining access to lesser used materials for University researchers.
